A client wished to give their parents a painting of Victoria Falls as a 50th wedding Anniversary present as they had honeymooned there. They weren’t sure whether their parents would prefer a watercolour on paper or an acrylic version on a box canvas. So they commissioned me to create two paintings and provided a copy of the photo’s that their parents had taken back in the 60’s.
The moment of the reveal was lovely as the family had happy tears of a thoughtful gift and happy memories. They chose the watercolour version and I’ve enjoyed hanging this canvas in my own home. But it’s now time to find a permanent home for it.

Who loves a sunset? We get fabulous ones over the rolling countryside that I can enjoy from my studio windows. This richly coloured watercolour was inspired by my love of trees and of Tolkien’s books.
The "Ents" are mythical creatures from J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. They closely resemble trees. You can just see the tops of trees behind the bank. Maybe they are moving off on a mythical journey like the other characters in the trilogy? Where does your imagination take you?

Inspiration is everywhere. This painting came about after I saw a TV advert of a car being driven through a marble quarry with a lake at its foot. I was taken by the size of the quarry and the markings and colour in the marble. I included some trees to give the impression of scale.

A client described their route for their daily morning run that they lived particularly on a crisp misty morning. I was able to add details to the watercolour by using crunched-up cling film and leaves to add interesting marks to the paint.

There's a lot of mist to be seen on crisp sunny winter mornings. This painting was inspired by a January walk in the Symonds Yat area. I'd come across some photos I'd taken there a few years ago and used them for inspiration.

One of my walks around a friend’s farm takes me past a large pond with sunlit oak trees strung with ivy overhanging the edge was the inspiration for this painting.
I love the shapes the branches make against the sky before the leave emerge and the fresh bright greens and yellows of spring.

Living in the Northwest of England it's very easy to get to places like the Peak District, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
When driving along I love seeing the rolling hills and the odd-shaped fields and the tree-lined tops. All those lovely shades of green; with touches of gold where perhaps a crop has been taken off; or the sunshine has changed the colour of the grasses.
So perhaps not surprising to learn that this mixed media artwork created with watercolour and threads is called "Driving through the Dales"

This was painted on a very wet Friday but will add a splash of colour to your home whatever the weather is doing. How many "figures" can you spot?
I painted it after watching a child jumping into the puddles when walking past my house with their mum in the rain. They were all wrapped up in a cagoule and hood so I couldn't see if they were a little girl or a little boy. I had two titles in mind for it " Dancing in the Rain" or "Splash" and I settled on the second one as the little one really was enjoying splashing about in their wellies :0)

Aren’t elephants amazing animals? And surprisingly graceful given their size. I still love Winnie the Pooh stories so my elephant had to be named after the character. There are only one or two brush strokes added to this painting as I mainly applied the paint with an old credit card.

White roses reflect the colours around them so often you don’t perceive them as being truly white. This painting recalls the cabbage roses that my father and grandfather used to grow up trellis dividing the garden. Their perfume filled the air on a warm summer evening.

This painting was created following some summer walks along clifftop fields beside the sea on a sunny day and enjoying the wildflowers growing along the field margins. I love the feel of the sunshine in this painting brightening up your day.

Do you like a bit of folklore and mystery? I do. This piece is called "Rombaulds Moor". Which I created from a photograph when I visited Ilkley in Yorkshire. Rombalds Moor is said to be named after local folklore legend "Rombald the Giant" The landscape looks like it's been shaped by the hands of giants.
This quote is taken from the Yorkshire Post "Awash with craggy outcrops, gritstone and rough land overgrown with heather, bracken and wild grass, the landscape is perhaps most well-known for its distinctive rock carvings. From hanging stones and boulders to huge flat slabs, more than 400 rocks carvings (known as 'cup and ring' stones) can be found dotted around the moor.”
Well worth a visit if you are ever in that area of England.
